I am a figurative painter based in the West of Scotland where the light and colours that inspired the Scottish Colourists and countless others, continue to inspire and challenge me in equal measure. On the Albums page you will find some examples of portraiture in oils plus lots of pastel and charcoal drawings and there are landscape albums from my island and highland adventures. Landscape is my main focus these days. I have been working figuratively in the landscape over the last three years - frequently battling strong winds, rain and midge attack. The 'en plein air' approach dictates an intuitive response on a small scale. The shapes and form of Scotland's landscape are echoed and repeated in both a grand and minute scale. Humans form pattern on it's surface - often out of kilter - sometimes in harmony. I halt where the light makes magic . . . and soon the moment passes.
